Who is harassing who? Scenes from the sidewalk

I was walking down the sidewalk outside Planned Parenthood, reading a pro-life handbook one of our team leaders gave me when I heard a car slow down and finally stop beside me on the road. (Why do these big strong courageous men wait until little ol’ me is all alone to do this?) He lowered the window on the passenger’s side and said in a low voice:

“Why don’t you stop harassing those people?”

“Who’s harassing who?” I asked him.

“You are!”

“I’m walking down the sidewalk. You are harassing me.”

“I’d like to!”

“You just did.”

He stomped on the gas and sped away.

What a man. What courage. What integrity. Look how he feels about women. He picks on a little old woman who is barely 5 feet tall, waits until I’m all alone, and then tries to intimidate me. Same kind of man who intimidates a woman into having an abortion. Pathetic. A mind in darkness and a heart in need of conversion. Please join me in praying for him.

Interestingly, the devotion for today (which I only read this evening, a few minutes ago, actually) is about this very sort of thing: the attacks of the enemy on those who are trying to follow God.

Pray that we will not become defeated by the enemy’s attacks but rather call on the name of the Lord who is
on our side and our help in time of trouble. — 40 Days for Life Devotion for March 3, 2010.

Note: the enemy is not the abortionist, not the clinic workers, not their customers, not even the one who hurls insults or makes threats to us who are praying on the sidewalk.

Our enemy is ever the same and has been our enemy from the beginning.

This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God.” &mdash John 3:19-21.

Keep the faith. Keep going out there, keep praying, keep following the Lord. Peace be with you.

About Disciple

I am a pro-life activist, blogger, writer, poet, singer songwriter, musician, photographer, nerd, bookworm and Mac fan. I have two dogs, one of whom is well-travelled. (I had three for a while after adopting a senior dog, but he has now passed away, and the pack is back to two girl dogs. One was born after, the days of mammoth road trips.) And the most important thing is: I was received into Holy Mother Church in 1996 and, through the grace of God, I love Christ and His Church more with every passing day. Thanks be to God!
